Discovering Design with Chemistry is an in-depth high school chemistry course tailored for students who have completed Algebra I. This independent study, college-preparatory course comprehensively covers fundamental aspects of chemistry including matter classification, atomic structure, spectroscopy, chemical bonding, molecular geometry, and various chemical reactions.
Integrating theoretical concepts with mathematical applications, the course equips students to think analytically like chemists, enabling them to understand and analyze significant material transformations. The curriculum covers stoichiometry, solutions, gas laws, acid/base chemistry, and delves into complex areas like thermochemistry, thermodynamics, kinetics, and chemical equilibrium.
Comprising 46 experiments, the course offers practical, hands-on learning experiences. These experiments range from quantitative measurements, such as determining water molecules in compounds and measuring specific heats of metals, to qualitative analyses including flame tests and exploring Boyle’s Law.
